The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet held a groundbreaking for the US 460 corridor at the Artists Collaborative Theater in Elkhorn City, Kentucky on January 21, 2011. Governor Steve Beshear and Chief District Engineer Kevin Damron joined representatives from the Appalachian Regional Commission and local leaders in celebrating the recent lettings of three sections of the project including a new interchange at US 23, bridges over Greasy Creek, Gardiner Fork, and Shop Branch, and the US 460 interchange with KY 80 near Elkhorn City. Although over 60% of the corridor has been or is under construction, this is the first groundbreaking celebration for this important corridor from US 23 to the Breaks Interstate Park. A crowd of over 100 local residents attended and were treated to local entertainment and refreshments prepared by the Artists Collaborative Theater.

Right of way acquisition and utility relocation efforts have been ongoing for several years in order to continue the construction of much needed US 460 from US 23 in Yeager to the Breaks Interstate Park in Virginia. The entire US 460 corridor should be completed within 5-10years.

The remaining sections are in the right of way acquisition and utility relocation phases and construction lettings will be scheduled as funding is received.
